Morning Blessing

I was given a blessing this morning, not by a minister but by the conductor of the 7:24 AM commuter rail into Boston’s North Station. As we approached our final stop, he got on the intercom and gently instructed us all to appreciate everything the day before us would bring. Moved, I asked a fellow rider if he did this every day. Apparently he did and for regulars on the train it was a very special part of their morning routine. As everyone gathered up their books and briefcases and stood up to leave, I overheard several people wish each other well. Then everyone filed out into the cold and the crowds and as I left the car to face my own busy day of meetings, I was reminded again about the profound power of words and the mystery of their ultimate impact.
